Famous Music Artists with Disabilities

When disability is mentioned, people usually think of helpless, crippled individuals who can’t do anything much on their own. Well, that proves wrong in different ways.

Being disabled was never a hindrance to some of the world’s most famous music artists. Below is a short list.

·   ·    Stevie Wonder – he is one of the most loved singer-songwriter in the world. Stevie was born prematurely and was born blind. His blindness was due to the undeveloped blood vessels at the back of his eyes. But this did not stop him from being a child prodigy, singer, and a great pianist with a lot of hit singles.

·       Paul Stanley – is known as the front man of the rock band KISS. Stanley is deaf in his right ear and has a deformity of the outer ear, which is a result of a deficiency called microtia. Stanley faced a lot of trials in his life carrying his deformity, but it was his tool to do his best and succeed. He and his band KISS sold millions of albums and won many awards such as the 2008 Showman of the Year award of the Classic Rock Awards, 2006 Long Island Music Hall of Fame and the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame of 2014.

·       Michael Bolton – he is known for his great vocals on pop rock ballads. Bolton won multiple Grammy and American Music awards, as well as sold more than 70 million albums worldwide. But behind this, many did not know that Bolton was actually deaf in one ear, which encourages him to do fundraisers and charities to help people with hearing disabilities.

·      Alan Pineda Lindo Jr. – popularly known as apl.de.ap of the famous group The Black Eyed Peas. Lindo has involuntary eye movement and limited vision, which is a result of a condition called nystagmus. This disability did not stop apl.de.ap from becoming successful with his group as well as his philanthropic works in the Philippines and all throughout Asia.

·    Karen Carpenter – the late American singer and member of the famous duo The Carpenters with her brother, is known for many hits such as Close to You, We've Only Just Begun, Yesterday Once More, Top of the World and many others.
