List of Break Up Songs

Break-up songs have their own special place in my heart, they've been there for every time a guy wasn't. The thing that makes them so great is that there are break-up songs for every stage of the grieving process after a relationship ends.

The ones that help us cry and scream, and then, the ones that remind us that someday we will move on and find someone better, someone else. Because of these reasons, these songs are just as special as love songs.

Below are the best list of great Break-Up songs to help you through it:

“7 Things,” by Miley Cyrus - This song long presumed to be about Cyrus’s then recent-ex Nick Jonas, is a perfect song for all the girls who has just been dumped and ignore. Cyrus herself said in interviews about the song that she was going through so many different emotions at the time she wrote it, and the song reflects that—the anger that makes you feel like you hate everything about that person, and the fact that your hatred of them also inspires a feeling like you may love them all the more. In short: breaking-up is confusing.

“Picture to Burn,” by Taylor Swift - This song that captures post-breakup anger perfectly is the fourth single released from Taylor Swift’s debut album. Known for her songs about her broken heart after each one of her relationships, this was Swift’s first one to express the anger she felt. Inspired by the nature of a man she never actually established a formal relationship with, it does however express the anger of a woman scorned.

“Cry Me a River,” by Justin Timberlake - Inspired by Timberlake’s very public failed relationship with fellow pop singer Britney Spears, and was the second single from Timberlake’s debut solo album post NSYNC. About a brokenhearted man who can’t accept his own past, the song has been covered and sung by numerous other artists over the years, including Selena Gomez, Leona Lewis and Taylor Swift. It’s the perfect song for the person who just hopes that their ex will start feeling an ounce of the pain they did. The overall message of this song: One day, you’ll miss me like I missed you—but I won’t care.

“Gives You Hell,” by The All-American Rejects - Another song which allows the dumped to get out their anger and at the same time sing about moving on from their heartbreak. Though the music video doesn't imply this at all (instead focusing on a prank war between two neighbors who can’t get along), the lyrics help get across the point that sometimes seeing the face of the person you dumped is the only weapon they need to make you regret losing them.

“Since U Been Gone,” by Kelly Clarkson - From Clarkson’s album Breakaway, this song is about a woman who expresses her relief over the end of her troubled relationship. Clarkson, like Taylor Swift, is known for her songs about guys who have done her wrong, but in an entirely different way. Hers are often more powerful ballads, ones which talk about how much stronger she is, and the ways she is better off without him. The overall message of this song: I’m over you and loving it.

Brilliant Musicians Who've Battled Mental Illness

Mental illness and creative brilliance often go hand and hand, particularly when it come so music. Mental health is definitely not an issue to be taken lightly, and mental illness has unfortunately claimed the lives of several individuals who had so much more to offer the world.

Here are the Musicians who have battled with mental illness against all odds, while giving us wonderful music.

Brian Wilson – The Beach Boys Condition: Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar Type By 1968, Brian Wilson began having a diminished creative role in The Beach Boys. Until then, he had been the groups principal songwriter, but he began spending the majority of his time in bed, sleeping, doing drugs and overeating. Eventually he was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type which supposedly caused him to hear voices in his head. But after various medication treatments and therapies, Wilson finally found a regimen that has allowed for him to continue recording and performing. He even managed to finish Smile, the legendary unfinished Beach Boys project that fell apart at the beginning of Wilson’s mental health problems.

Daniel Johnston - Condition: Bipolar Disorder If you've seen The Devil and Daniel Johnston, you know the story. At a young age, Johnston decided he was going to be an artist. His ambitious nature of recording homemade tapes to give to people he met gained him some notoriety when he was living in Austin, Texas, augmented by Kurt Cobain’s habit of frequently wearing a t-shirt featuring Johnston’s Hi, How Are You? album cover. Johnston’s battle with severe manic depression produced many wonderful songs, but sent him in and out of mental institutions for a large part of his life as well. He currently lives with his parents in Waller, Texas, and continues to write and record music.

Syd Barrett – Pink Floyd Condition: Speculated Schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder Syd Barrett was never officially diagnosed with any form of mental illness, but many music historians have speculated that he might have suffered from either schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. A founding member of Pink Floyd, he left the band in 1968 after his behavior became increasingly erratic. Barrett was also a heavy drug user, a habit that many suspect contributed to his declining mental health.

Roky Erickson – 13th Floor Elevators Condition: Paranoid Schizophrenia As pioneers of the psychedelic rock movement, Roky Erickson and the rest of the 13th Floor Elevators often drew unwanted attention from the authorities for their open advocacy of drug use. Then in 1969, Erickson was arrested for possession of marijuana when he was found with a single joint, an event that would change his life. To avoid jail time, Erickson pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. He was sent to Rusk State Hospital for the criminally insane where the singer was diagnosed with schizophrenia. He subsequently received heavy medication and electroshock therapy for the next several years.

Kurt Cobain – Nirvana Condition: Bipolar Disorder It’s unclear whether or not Kurt Cobain was ever officially diagnosed with bipolar disorder. His cousin, Bev Cobain, a registered nurse with a background working in mental health, has claimed he suffered from the illness. “Kurt was diagnosed at a young age with Attention Deficit Disorder [ADD], then later with bipolar disorder [also known as manic-depression],” she said in an interview. “Bipolar illness has the same characteristics as major clinical depression, but with mood swings, which present as rage, euphoria, high energy, irritability, distractibility, overconfidence, and other symptoms. As Kurt undoubtedly knew, bipolar illness can be very difficult to manage, and the correct diagnosis is crucial. Unfortunately for Kurt, compliance with the appropriate treatment is also a critical factor.”

Musicians Who Died In Plane Crash

Music is immortal. So are the artists who created their masterpiece of songs who touched the lives of their adoring fans.

There are many obstacles in a life of a musician, and the most painful of it is an untimely death. Below is the list of musicians who died in plane crash.

Ritchie Valens – this American singer-songwriter was a Chicano rock music pioneer. After a 1959 performance in Iowa, Valens flew out of Mason City in a chartered plane with other known musicians. Their plane crashed shortly after a snow storm takeoff and killed everyone including the pilot. Ritchie was only seventeen.

Otis Redding – he is an American singer-songwriter and a big artist of rhythm in blues. In 1967, Redding’s plane crashed in a bad weather while flying between Madison and Nashville. Otis and 4 of his Bar-Kays band members were killed. He was 26 years old.

Aaliyah – the young American recording artist was only 22 when their chartered plane crashed in The Bahamas after completed filming a music video. Aaliyah suffered from severe shock, burns, and blow to the head which immediately killed the young singer.

Jim Croce – he was a 30-year-old singer-songwriter known for his chart-topping hits “Time in a Bottle” and "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown". In 1973, while on tour, Croce was killed along with four others when his chartered plane crashed in Louisiana. Jim Croce was buried in Pennsylvania.

Ricky Nelson – he is known for a number of hits including "Poor Little Fool", as well as starring in a family TV series The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. In 1985, Nelson and his band boarded a private plane for New Year’s Eve. The plane crash landed and killed seven out of the nine occupants, including Ricky Nelson.

They are just some of the many greats who went before us. But as we said, music is immortal and so are the artists who made music that touched our lives.

Songs Connected To Suicide

Music can wake many emotions in a man. It can bring out the happiest and brightest side of us, and it can also draw out our deep dark side.

In connection to what’s mentioned above, below is a list of some songs known to be connected to suicide.

Gloomy Sunday – this is also known as the Hungarian Suicide Song. It was composed by Rezső Seress in 1933. There have been many urban legends surrounding this song over the years and radio networks even banned it in. Some reports tell that there have been at least 19 suicides in America and Hungary connected to this song, but there are verification difficulties. However, the composer Seress committed suicide by choking himself to death with a wire in a hospital in January 1968.

Adam’s Song – it is a 2000 single by the band Blink 182 which reached #2 on the US Modern Rock Tracks. This is probably the only serious song from Blink 182. It tells about the innocence of childhood and depression of teenagers. Tom DeLonge, the band’s guitarist said that the story behind the song was of a kid who sent Mark (lead singer) an email before committing suicide.

How To Save A Life – is a hit single by the American rock band The Fray. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. According to the band’s lead singer Isaac Slade, the song was inspired by his experience at a camp for troubled teens as a mentor. He was paired with a 17 year old back then who lost his friends and was going through depression, which is similar to what the song is about. Slade even got an email about the song of a boy who died in a car crash and the song was played at his funeral.

Fade to Black – this song is the first ballad by the heavy metal band Metallica. Part of the lyrics goes:  Life it seems will fade away. Drifting further every day. Getting lost within myself. Nothing matters no one else. I have lost the will to live. Simply nothing more to give... In a 2003 interview of drummer Lars Ulrich, he recalled how the vocalist James Hetfield was “obsessed with death” when the song was produced. Hetfield also commented on an interview that Fade to Black is indeed a suicide song and they received a lot of hostility about it, as people think kids kill themselves because of the song.

Beyond The Realms of Death – it is a 1978 song by the British metal band called Judas Priest from their album Stained Class. It was written by their vocalist Rob Halford. The song tells about the depression of a person and death probably by suicide.

Now, we’re not saying these songs can induce suicidal thoughts; it’s just a plain discussion on how the songs mentioned above were related to the subject of suicide.

Music Composers Who Died Strange Deaths

Death is inevitable and is basically a part of life. It may come quickly or slowly to some, while strange and unexpected to others.

And speaking of such, odd deaths have been recorded all throughout history. Here, we’ll talk about the music composers who died strange deaths.

•    Jean-Baptiste Lully – he is a famous French composer during the Baroque era. Lully created masterpieces for opera, ballet and comedies, and is also King Louis XIV’s favorite court composer. During his Te Deum performance, Lully struck his foot with his pointed staff (used to keep time). He refused to get the wound treated and eventually it was infected with gangrene, which caused his death on March 1687.

•    Alexander Scriabin – a Great Russian composer during the turn of the 20th century. It is said that Scriabin accidentally cut his lip from shaving, in which an infection occurred. Alexander Scriabin died due to Septicemia.

•    Anton von Webern – he is an influential Austrian composer who is also popular for using the twelve tone system of music by Schoenberg. Webern went out to enjoy a cigar and to avoid waking up his grandchildren; he was oblivious of the Allied forces’ established curfew, and was shot dead by an American soldier named Raymond Bell on September 15, 1945. Bell was traumatized and overcome with grief by that event and 10 years later died of alcoholism.

•    Hugo Wolf – he is a German prolific song writer known for his Lieder song cycles. Then in the early 1897, Wolf showed signs of mental derangement due to syphilis which leads to stop him from composing. He attempted suicide by drowning himself, admitted to an insane asylum and then died there in 1903.

•    Ernest Chausson – a famous French Romantic composer for orchestra and violin. At the age of 44, he went out for a bicycle ride outside his Limay property when he suddenly lost control on a slope downhill, crashing into a brick wall and causing his instant death.

These are just some of the many composers who died strange deaths. Do you have any you can add on to the list too?
