5 Musicians Who Struggled With Drug Addiction

Fame and fortune has a big price. People working in the show business industry are some of the most prone victims of paying it.

Musicians are basically artists; they create their masterpiece through their minds. Some of them turn to drugs to help them deal with their thoughts, although, they often end up using and abusing it.

Below are 5 of some of the musicians known to struggle with addiction.

Kurt Cobain
He was born Kurt Donald Cobain on February 20, 1967, was a lead singer and guitarist of the alternative rock band Nirvana. Cobain and Nirvana were labeled as the “Generation X’s flagship band”. They were known for their major breakthrough “Smells like Teen Spirit” from their 1991 album Nevermind. Despite the glory of fame, Cobain struggled with depression, illness and heroin addiction. Kurt Cobain was found dead in his Seattle home by a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head.

Whitney Houston 
She was born Whitney Elizabeth Houston, was one of the most famous American singer/actress. Guinness World Records of 2009 gave her the title as the most awarded female act of all time. Whitney had countless of award-winning albums and songs in the music charts, as well as prominent films. Houston was found dead in a bathub in a guest room at The Beverly Hilton in California. Reports showed that heart disease and cocaine were the main factors of the singer’s untimely death.

Michael Jackson
He was born Michael Joseph Jackson on August 29, 1958, known as no other than the “King of Pop”. His death in 2009 caused a big shock in the music industry as well as his millions of fans. Michael died in his rented mansion in Los Angeles due to drug intoxication followed by cardiac arrest. Jackson was said to have abused prescription medicine under many pseudonyms. Some of the drugs involved were sertraline, alprazolam, omeprazole, hydrocodone, and more.

Ozzy Osbourne
He was born John Michael Osbourne, was the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath. Most of his adult life, he admitted to have used and abused alcohol and drugs. He claimed that he first used cocaine back in 1971, and his former band members said Ozzy had the unhealthiest lifestyle of them all when it comes to drugs. Eventually, Ozzy’s alcohol and drug abuse prompted him to leave Black Sabbath.

Jim Morrison
He was born James Douglas Morrison, was the lead vocalist of an LA rock band called The Doors. Morrison was regarded as the most iconic and influential frontmen in rock music history.  Jim Morrison was found dead in a Paris apartment bathub. After his death, Morrison’s long-term partner Pamela Courson stated that Jim had died of heroin overdose by unintentionally ingesting it.
