Old Music Versus New Music: Which is Better?

Time waits for no man. This is a famous quote from a Medieval play “Everyman”. It might mean many things for some people, but the simplest meaning would be that time changes, and it changes quickly.

Hence, with the quick evolution of time, things evolve with it as well – including music. Music has many genres and people’s preference to it has always been in parts. But the never-ending battle remains the same. Which is better – old music or new music?

Old Music
The old generation thinks that music was better back in the day, as they say it has more meaning. Old songs were created with hard work and without much help of the modern technology. However, since most of the old songs are experimental, they tend to result with an amateur touch. Although, old song lyrics have deeper and meaningful emotions put into it, such as John Lennon’s “Imagine”.

New Music
The new generation of music is more mainstream or generic. These new songs are played across radio stations and they’re popular. Although, popular does not necessarily mean it’s good as some songs today have repetitive lyrics that lacks emotion. However, some of the new revivals sounds better than the originals, and with the help of technology, a lot of new and upcoming artists are known.

Overall, we can’t really say which music is better, old or new, as it will always depend on the people’s preference. Old music paved the way to recent genre of musicians, and new music writes its own history for the future ones.
